Buying Recycled:
If you are not buying recycled, then you are not fully recycling. In order to close the loop and make all your recycling efforts worthwhile, you must make the decision to be a smart shopper for the home and the work place. Buying recycled conserves resources, reduces waste and pollution and conserves energy. The following section will help you identify the many products that are available and how you can get more information on them.

Three white arrows enclosed in a dark circle indicate that the products and packaging contain recycled material. Many items you buy every day contain recycled content. Listed are some of those products:
Aluminum Cans Car Bumpers Carpet Pads
Cereal Boxes Comic Books Compost
Cereal Boxes Cartons Fast-food Napkins
Glass Bottles Mailing Tubes Motor Oil
Mulch Nails Newspaper
Office Paper Plastic Bottles Recycling Bins
Steel Cans

Trash Bags

Those are just a few of the products we purchase on a daily basis. Imagine what we could do as shoppers if we just made a commitment to buy recycled whenever possible. The following is a list of Internet resources that will get you on the right track to being a smart shopper at home and in the work place.

http://www.metrokc.gov/procure/green/envlink.htm – King County, Washington, has placed a variety of information about its recycled product procurement program on-line, including manufacturers and specifications for office, construction and landscaping, and automotive products, among others. The site also lists other major Internet sources of information about recycled products, including publications, associations and other Internet sites.
