Columbus Bartholomew Recycling Center:
The drive-through center, located at 720 S. Mapleton in Columbus, is open for residential recycling on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30am - 6:00pm and Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00am - 3:30pm. To minimize your time at the center, please have items sorted by category for each material listed. Items accepted and preparation for those materials is as follows:
Glass
Clear, green and brown bottles and jars only. Jars must be empty with lids removed and reasonably cleaned out. Please sort by color and do not break. No other glass accepted.
Helpful hints:
- Do not run tap water to rinse out jars. Clean them out in your dirty dishwater, that way you are not wasting one resource to save another!
- Labels are OK.
- Metal lids can be placed with bi-metal cans.
Metals
Bi-metal food cans (tin). Cans must be empty, reasonably clean and separated from beverage cans.
Aluminum beverage cans. Cans must be empty and separated from bi-metal cans.
Aluminum foil. Must be clean and placed with bi-metal containers.
Scrap metal. Any scrap metal such as old faucets and hangers. Can be placed with bi-metal cans.
White goods (appliances). Stoves, washers, dryers, microwaves and other appliances. No air conditioners and refrigerators or other appliances containing CFC’s will be accepted.
Helpful hints:
- Rinse out in your dirty dishwater!
- Labels are OK.
- Flatten cans to save space and be careful when recycling the lids as they are very sharp.
Plastic
# 1 PET. Accepting all colors and sizes of plastic bottles. Bottles must be empty with lids removed.
# 2 HDPE. Milk jugs, detergent containers, shampoo bottles or any other # 2 marked container with a line or seam across the bottom. Must be empty with lids removed. No motor oil containers accepted.
Helpful hints:
- Flatten to save space.
- Use refills when possible.
Cardboard
Corrugated cardboard and Kraft sacks (brown paper bags). Break boxes down and make sure there are no inserts or packing left inside. Labels and tape do not have to be removed. No waxed or foiled cardboard accepted. Please keep dry.
Paperboard. Cereal boxes, gift boxes and like packaging. Flatten and remove all inserts. No waxed or foiled paperboard accepted. Please keep dry.
Helpful hints:
- When in doubt about waxed cardboard, just scratch with your fingernail. If wax residue comes off it can’t be recycled locally (Refrigerated paperboard or cardboard containers are usually waxed).
- Flatten for storage and handling convenience.
Paper
Newspaper. Includes all inserts. Keep separate from other paper products.
Junk mail, mixed colored paper, office forms and gift wrap. Includes envelopes with windows, post-it notes and mixed office paper waste. No carbon paper, foil wrapping paper, tissue paper or ribbons accepted. Gift wrap must be folded and flattened. Keep separate from other paper products.
