Laundry:
Detergent
  • Use powdered, phosphate-free detergent. Do not use more than the prescribed amount as more soap will only add a surface film, not get clothes cleaner.
  • For extra whitening, use soap flakes and washing soda.
Perspiration Stains
  • Weak water solutions of white vinegar, lemon juice or aspirin can be used as a pre-soak to remove stains.
  • Soak clothes in a solution of corn meal and water.
Stain Remover
  • Try a water and vinegar on weak stains.
  • On tough stains try soaking the spot in a mixture of ¼ cup borax in 2 cups of cold water before washing.
  • Rub corn meal and water into greasy stains then rinse with lemon juice before machine washing.
White/Bright
  • Avoid using chlorine bleach as it can be hazardous when combined with other elements in waste water.
